SU73 Marbled Murrelets 2 | 2017
Time - 5:00 am - 8:30 am
Trip Leader(s): Alexa Dejoannis
Discover this endangered and mysterious Marbled Murrelet, set in dramatic redwood old-growth forest. The ringing “keer” calls pierce the early morning mist. This trip to Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park near Orick is for early birds! The dawn chorus, including Varied Thrush, Pacific Wren and possibly Pileated Woodpecker, accompanies pre-dawn flights of the murrelets. These birds are usually seen only in flight. Plenty of other redwood forest birds can be enjoyed. Flat terrain, but moist. Restrooms are available, will not stop for food. (Carpool, 90 miles round trip).
